The PlayStation 3 remains a legendary console with a massive library of games. Thanks to the advent of Custom Firmware (CFW) and HEN (Homebrew ENabler), the PS3 homebrew community is still thriving. However, for newcomers, the process of installing digital games can be confusing, specifically when dealing with the relationship between .pkg files and .rap files.
Plug the USB drive into the of your PS3 (this is technically usb_000 and is the most reliable). Copy the PKG file from your external drive

Once your USB is ready, plug it into the USB port closest to the disc drive on your PS3 for the best compatibility. Enable your jailbreak (launch PS3HEN if applicable). Navigate to the Game column on the XMB (main menu). Select "Package Manager" and then "Install Package Files." Choose "Standard" to view the files on your USB drive.
Once your files are organized on the USB drive, connect it to your PlayStation 3. Always use the USB port closest to the Blu-ray disc drive (the rightmost port) for the most stable connection. For Custom Firmware (CFW) Users: Turn on your PS3. Re-download or try another source
Once formatted, copy your .pkg file(s) directly to the of your USB drive. Some guides suggest placing PKG files in a folder named "Packages," but placing them at the root level ensures maximum compatibility. To avoid installation errors, ensure the filenames contain only alphanumeric characters and standard punctuation.
