When a user clicks a download link for a game that does not exist, they are often redirected through a maze of advertisements, surveys, and "human verification" prompts. In the best-case scenario, the user wastes time and downloads nothing. In the worst-case scenario, the downloaded file is a vector for malware, spyware, or viruses. I think its the start… there's worse to come.

Interesting. I'm also blocked and I'm using Google's DNS and not Virgin Media's. A simple VPN service can still access Pirate Bay as predicted.

Argh, me hearties and shiver me timbers. I hope it doesn't happen in Australia. I'd never be able to "evaluate" anything.

Italy routinely blocks gambling sites which are not registered with the state gambling monopoly (http://www.aams.gov.it) … which would appear to violate the spirit of free commerce within the EU.

I’m another person who thinks it’s a terrible decision by the court. It won’t make a dent in piracy, but just makes it easier for more censorship of websites in the future than private companies such as music rights holders disagree with for any reason.

Sites in the U.S have already been mistakenly taken offline and then brought back a year later, for example. If that’s someone’s sole earnings, then they’re utterly stuck for 12 months without cash, and presumably might not even know until one day their traffic drops off a cliff.

The only good thing is that at least I can avoid using ISPs that have complied with these court orders for the time being, along with using a VPS etc, and that it may encourage more people in the future to check out the Pirate Party, Open Rights Group, etc etc.
